Visakhapatnam : At least two people were killed and four others were hospitalised following a gas leak at a pharmaceutical unit in Andhra Pradesh’s Vishakhapatnam in the wee hours of Tuesday.
Benzimidazole gas leaked at the Sainor Life Sciences Pvt Ltd in Visakhapatnam’s Parawada Pharma city which led to the death of two people who were present at the spot. Initial reports suggest that 30 workers were present at the factory at the time of the incident.
The police, however, has asserted that the situation is ‘under control’ while adding that the “gas has not spread anywhere else”. It further said that the four people who were affected in the incident are undergoing treatment at the Gajuwaka private hospital.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has taken cognizance of the incident. “Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has enquired about the accident at Sainar Life Sciences Pharma company at Parawada, Visakhapatnam. Accident occurred due to leakage at 11.30 PM last night. Factory was shut down immediately as a precautionary measure,” said Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) in a statement.
