The Toyota Fortuner is still the leader in its segment. It outsells its newer rivals like the Chevrolet Trailblazer and the new-generation Ford Endeavour as well, and this is despite it being fairly long in the tooth. Sales, however, have been on a decline, but things are expected to change for Toyota, as it is all set to launch the second-generation Fortuner on November 7, 2016.
New Toyota Fortuner price
Expect higher prices for the new Fortuner. With new technology, higher levels of equipment and the backing of a strong brand value, Toyota is confident enough to give the Fortuner a heavy price tag, and sources have informed us that ex-showroom prices will be over Rs 30 lakh. Currently, the top-spec 4X4 AT car costs Rs 28 lakh. Toyota did the same with the new Innova, and raised the cost of the new-generation car, but sales have only being encouraging.
New Toyota Fortuner engine details
In a first for the Fortuner, Toyota will initially launch the SUV with both petrol and diesel engines. Built on the same platform as the Innova, the Fortuner will feature both the 2.8-litre diesel and 2.7-litre petrol engines initially, and will have switchable drive modes for power and economy. There will be three configurations; the diesel will likely get a four-wheel drive layout with both a manual and an automatic gearbox. Toyota’s 4WD system is now called Sigma 4 and it features active traction control for all four wheels, according to the manufacturer.
The petrol will launch with a 4×2 system and a manual gearbox. Undoubtedly, the heavier 4X4 system and an automatic gearbox would severely compromise the fuel-efficiency figures. The petrol will get a five-speed manual gearbox whereas the diesel will have a six-speed unit.
New Toyota Fortuner equipment details
The diesel cars will be fitted with 18-inch alloys, while the petrol will have 17-inch rims. In terms of variants, there will only be one fully loaded version at launch. Additional features include segment first bi-beam LED headlamps with LED daytime running lamps and push-button start to name a few.
New Toyota Fortuner launch date revealed
Toyota will launch the SUV on November 7, 2016 and cars have already been seen in dealership around the country. Dealerships are accepting bookings for the new Fortuner with deliveries being promised around second week of November.
