Tipu Sultan Jayanti: Stones hurled at bus in Madikeri, over 100 BJP workers detained in Hubli

Hubli:The Congress government in Karnataka is celebrating Tipu Jayanti on Friday amid tight security. The Siddaramaiah-led government in Karnataka has been celebrating the birth anniversary of the 18th century Mysore ruler for the past three years to honour him as a freedom fighter. Tipu Sultan died fighting the British. Right-wing Hindu groups are, however, opposed to the celebrations as they see Tipu Sultan as a barabaric ruler who carried out forceful conversions.
12.40 pm: DCP Karnataka Renuka Sukumar said more than 150 BJP workers protesting against Tipu Jayanti celebration in Hubli were detained.
12.15 pm: Meanwhile, celebrations continue outside Bengaluru’s Tipu Sultan Palace on Tipu Jayanti where members of Tipu Sultan United Front have assembled.
