A woman lost her unborn baby within hours of returning home from the Medical College Hospital after doctors said her labor is still away. Divya, wife of Shinu K Micheal of Nattassery, was admitted to the gynecology department Saturday morning with what the mother of two felt was labor pain She was under care there until 7 pm, but doctors discharged her saying everything was fine and there no indication of any labor pain. However, Divya developed pain three hours after reaching home.
Divya was rushed back to the gynec section, but by that time the baby’s head had come out.She delivered within minutes, but the baby was dead. Shinu says doctors told him the baby had died two hours ago.
The allegation is that doctors could not determine in earlier medical checks that Divya was in such advanced stage. Shinu said he would file complaints with the superintendent of the Medical College
Divya had been having regular checks at the Medical College gynec section from the beginning. The first two children were born in normal deliveries. The third delivery was expected on January 2 , but since Divya felt pain she was admitted Saturday morning.
Medical College gynecology section chief C P Vijayan denied any error on the part of doctors who attended on Divya. However, he said the cause of the baby’s death could not be established.
The woman had arrived at the hospital in the morning complaining she was feeling uneasy. The baby’s heartbeat was checked by evening. As per the case sheet, it was recorded as normal. There was no indication that Divya was into labor
She was sent home as she had no other health issues and also because she lives close by. However, when Divya came back to the hospital, the delivery was already through. The baby had died in the womb, he said.
