A 20-year-old boy missing since Monday evening was bludgeoned to death in a public park in east Delhi’s Kalyanpuri. Police said the man’s face was crushed with stones to hide his identity. The crime came to light on Tuesday morning when a local resident spotted the body and informed the cops.
A senior police officer said that a case of murder has been registered at Kalyanpuri police station. Cops have ruled out robbery as a motive behind the murder since the boy’s mobile phone and other belongings were found intact. “We are probing the case from an angle of personal enmity as well, even though the boy’s family maintains that he did not have any enemies,” said the police officer.
The deceased, identified as Ranjit Kumar, lived with his family members in Block-2, Kalyanpuri. He worked as a helper at a local shop and was addicted to drugs, police said.
On Monday evening, a police officer said, Kumar’s parents reprimanded him for his bad habits after which he left home. When he did not return home till late in the night, his family called Kumar, asking him to come back home. The victim told his parents that he was on his way back home. However, when he did not return till midnight, his family members panicked and started searching for him in the locality.
“His family members and his friends dialed his mobile phone multiple times but their calls went unanswered,” police said. The victim was identified with the help of his mobile phone. The body was sent for postmortem examination.
