The next-generation Mercedes Benz S-Class and the E-Class are scheduled to launch in India, next year. Both models are expected to receive a host of upgrades with their next-generation models.
The Mercedes-Benz S-Class features top-notch luxury and performance, and is known to be the brand’s true flagship model. On the other hand, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class has been the brand’s best-seller in its segment in India.
The current-gen Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W222) has been on sale in India since 2014. The German luxury-sedan will be replaced by the next-gen S-Class (W223), which is set to make its world premiere in September this year.
The company has not revealed many details about the upcoming next-gen S-Class sedan. However, few spy shots that surfaced on the internet reveal the next-gen luxury-sedan to feature a large waterfall-type infotainment screen on the dashboard. The new infotainment system is expected to feature a clean design with fewer buttons to operate.
The next-gen Mercedes-Benz S-Class is expected to be offered with a host of powertrain options. This includes petrol, diesel, mild-hybrid, and plug-in hybrid engine options. There are also rumours floating around that the company will discontinue the Coupe and Cabriolet versions of the S600, leaving only the long wheelbase model on offer.
Santosh Iyer also confirmed that the upcoming E-Class will only receive a mid-life cycle facelift when launched next year in India. The current-gen Mercedes-Benz E-Class has been on sale in India since 2017 and has set a new benchmark in its segment.
He added that India is the only market in the world to get a right-hand-drive, long-wheelbase E-Class, as a result, the facelift was never scheduled to launch in 2020. This is due to the longer time-line involved in manufacturing of long-wheelbase models by sourcing the components from its global supply chain.
