A Major Milestone for Healthcare in Kollam: District’s First PET-CT Scan Facility Inaugurated at Travancore Medicity

KOLLAM: Marking a revolutionary step in the field of cancer diagnosis and treatment in the district, the first-ever PET-CT Scan (Positron Emission Tomography) facility in Kollam was inaugurated at Travancore Medicity. The advanced facility was officially opened by the  Minister for Finance,  K.N. Balagopal.
The PET-CT scan and Nuclear Medicine services have been established at the Travancore Institute of Cancer Care, the specialized oncology wing of Travancore Medicity. PET-CT is a sophisticated imaging technology used to identify cancer at its earliest stages by examining the metabolic activity of cells. By utilizing radioactive tracers, it helps clinicians precisely locate cancer cells, evaluate the spread of the disease, and monitor the effectiveness of ongoing treatments.
The introduction of this facility is expected to be a huge relief for patients in and around Kollam, who previously had to travel to other districts for such specialized diagnostic procedures.
The inaugural ceremony commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Sameer S. (Senior Consultant). The event was presided over by  A.A. Salam (Chairman, Travancore Medicity) and  Abdul Salam (Secretary).Distinguished medical professionals and leaders of the institution shared their insights and felicitations during the program, including:
