No cases in 80 districts in last 7 days, says Harsh Vardhan; India tally nears 30,000

Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan on Tuesday said 80 districts in the country have not reported any new COVID-19 case in the last seven days even as cumulative confirmed cases tally nationwide inched towards 30,000.

According to the Tuesday evening Health Ministry update, the confirmed cases nationwide was 29,974. Out of these, 7027 have been cured and discharged while 937 people have succumbed to the deadly virus.

With the plasma therapy gaining a lot of traction as a possible cure for coronavirus, Centre warned against indiscriminate use of plasma therapy for treating COVID-19. The Union Health Ministry clarified that it is at an experimental stage and there is no evidence yet to support that it can be used as treatment for COVID-19.
