SRINAGAR/NEW DELHI: Tension continued to prevail along the Line of Control and the international border in Jammu and Kashmir with Pakistani troops firing on Army posts and civilian areas at five places in Jammu on Tuesday.
“Pakistani troops breached border ceasefire and resorted to unprovoked firing with small arms and mortar shells towards Army posts and civilian areas at three places in the Naushera sector from 5 am,” defence spokesman Lt Col Manish Mehta said.“Both sides exchanged fire and mortar shells for about three hours,” he added. Pakistani troops opened fire on Army positions in the Pallanwala sector of Akhnoor at 1.35 pm. Indan forces returned the fire. “No casualties or damage to properties was caused on this side in the Pakistani troops firing,” he said. Additional troops have been deployed along the borders to meet any eventuality. The troops have also moved military hardware to the forward positions.
In New Delhi, Indian Air Force boss Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha said India’s response to the September 18 terror attack in Uri was still not over. “Things are still live. It would not be right for me give a perspective now,” Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha responded when asked about the possible fallout of the Army’s surgical strikes in PoK.
