Maruti will add yet another vehicle — the Ignis — to its hatch line-up in the coming months. Displayed at the Auto Expo 2016, the Ignis is a compact crossover, replete with tall height, large wheel arches and a distinctive front and rear end. It was slated for launch this festive season, but has been delayed to early next year on account of capacity constraints at Maruti’s plant.
Maruti Ignis price and rivals
Maruti has remained tight-lipped about the Ignis’s price, but considering that it will be sold through Nexa dealerships, a premium price tag starting around Rs. 5.5 lakh can’t be ruled out.
The Ignis will compete with the Mahindra KUV100, while other indirect competitors are the compact SUVs such as the Maruti Vitara Brezza, Ford EcoSport, Hyundai i20 Activ, Mahindra TUV300, Fiat Avventura and Fiat Urban Cross.
Maruti Ignis engine details
Expect the Ignis to come with two engine options (a modified version of the 1.2-litre K-series petrol engine that currently services the Swift and the Baleno, and the 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engine) and two transmission options (a manual and a CVT).
Maruti Ignis equipment
Considering the Ignis will be a premium offering, expect it to be packed with features such as LED daytime running lamps, touchscreen infotainment system with navigation, smartphone connectivity and Apple CarPlay, dual airbags and ABS, and reverse camera and parking sensor.
Maruti Ignis launch
Maruti will bring the Ignis to its Nexa showrooms early next year. The launch was initially scheduled for the festive season, but now has been pushed back due to capacity constraints at the carmaker’s plant.
