Union water resources minister Nitin Gadkari on Monday asked water research institutions to show result of their studies on the ground or face closure.
Underlining that merely “writing books and publishing research papers” would not suffice, Gadkari also said that deliberations and outcome of seminars and conferences should be visible on the ground and benefit the farmers and common man.
“As a minister, I am going to count performance of every institution… you have to show (result)… Or else, I will take the decision to close all the things (institutions). If you are not going to justify it (one’s role), no problem, then you have to quit,” said Gadkari while addressing an international conference on ground water. The aim of the conference is to provide common platform for policy planners, researchers, academicians and water managers to discuss and present their view on emerging issues related to ground water management.
