Carbohydrates can be a part of a healthy diet, because the body turns carbohydrates into glucose. Carbohydrates are a healthy and important part of nutritious diet. After eating food with high carb in it, our blood sugar goes up. As far as controlling Diabetes is concerned, our goal is to balance the insulin in our body. DIABETES MELLITUS:

Diabetes mellitus, commonly known as Diabetes, is a metabolic disease that causes high blood sugar. The hormone insulin moves sugar from the blood into our cells to be stored or used for energy. Untreated high blood sugar can damage our nerves, eyes, kidneys and other organs. Type 1 diabetes is an auto immune disease. The immune system attacks and destroys cells in the pancreas where insulin is made. About 10% of people have this type of diabetes. Type 2 diabetes occurs when our body becomes resistant to insulin. Gestational diabetes is high blood sugar during pregnancy.

RANGE OF DIABETES:

  • A blood sugar level less than 150mg/dL is normal.
  • A reading of more than 200 mg/dL after two hours indicate diabetes.
  • A reading between 140 and 199 mg/dL indicates pre diabetes.

SYMPTOMS:

TYPE 1 DIABETES:

         Extreme hunger( polyphagia)

Increased thirst( polydipsia)

Frequent urination ( polyuria)

Unintentional weight loss

Blurry vision

Tiredness

TYPE 2 DIABETES:

         Type 1 Diabetes symptoms in addition with sores that are slow to heal.

SYMPTOMS IN MEN:

Decreased sex drive, Erectile dysfunction ( ED) and poor muscle strength.

SYMPTOMS IN WOMEN:

Urinary tract infections, yeast infections , dry and itchy skin.

CAUSES OF DIABETES:

  • Obese
  • High BP
  • Increased triglycerides ( cholesterol)

  • Increasing age
