India is gearing up for its most ambitious space mission, Chandrayaan-2, which will attempt to explore an uncharted region of the moon. Chandrayaan-2 will lift off on Monday at 2.51am from India’s only space port at Sriharikota.
If the mission is successful, India would become the fourth country in the world to land a rover on the moon and the first to do so on its south polar region.
Before Chandrayaan-2, India expanded its footprint in space with the Mars Orbiter Mission. Filmmaker Jagan Shakti will bring alive the story of the country’s maiden interplanetary mission in the upcoming film Mission Mangal, which stars Akshay Kumar, Taapsee Pannu, Vidya Balan, Sonakshi Sinha, Sharman Joshi, Nithya Menen and Kirti Kulhari.
