BJP district youth wing chief hacked to death in Villupuram

VILLUPURAM: The district youth wing president of Bharatiya Janata Party was brutally murdered on Tuesday by a gang of four which hurled a country bomb at him before hacking him to death The victim, who had joined the party recently, had also filed  nomination for the upcoming local body elections. He was reportedly accused in many cases and was returning from the court after a  hearing when the incident happened.

According to sources, Jana alias Janarthanan(32) of Kuyilapalayam village near Auroville had more than 30 cases against him in Villupuram and Puducherry. He was at the Villupuram court on Tuesday for the hearing of a case registered in 2008 pertaining to the kidnapping Chellapandian, a teacher from Tirukoilur, for ransom.

After the hearing, Jana and his friends Suresh (39) and V Cithranjan (35) were returning to his home in Auttupatti, Puducherry. Jana and Suresh were on one bike and Cithranjan was following in another bike. They had crossed the railway over bridge in East Pondy Road opposite Saint James church when four men in two bikes threw country bombs at them. Jana fell with severe injuries to the head and the gang, finding he was alive if only barely, hacked him to death. Passersby, who witnessed the entire incident, were kept away by the gang who were wielding scythes.

On information, police officials, including Deputy Superintendents of Police Vellaisamy, Surulirajan, inspectors Shyamsundar, Senthilvinayagam, and Annadurai rushed to the spot. Suresh, who was also injured, was taken to government Mundiambakkam hospital. Jana’s body was also taken there for an autopsy. Traffic was diverted while the police secured and later cleared the spot. A team of forensic experts collected evidence including the bomb debris. Superintendent of police, K S Narendran Nayar also visited the spot.

The police sounded an alert and arranged for checks at the border villages of Valavanur, Kandamangalam, Kiliyanur, Vikrawandi, Vanur, Auroville, and Kottakuppam. However, the gang could not be caught. Cithranjan was detained for inquiries under suspicion as he was left unhurt even though he was with Jana. The Villupuram town police filed a case. Four police teams were formed under DSPs Vellaidurai and Gnanavel. Security was strenghtened in Villupuram, Kottakuppam and Auroville areas.
