A Non-Resident Indian (NRI) has been arrested on charges of molesting an American woman in Lutyens’ Delhi Taj Palace hotel on January 8. The accused man works on a contract basis with Google and was residing at the same hotel.
According to police, the woman had reached the Capital and checked in at the Taj Palace hotel on January 6. The accused — Anmol Singh (25) — from California, was also staying at the same hotel. They both were acquainted to each other and on January 8, he invited her over for drinks at his room.
“He offered the 52-year old American a drink laced with sedatives and tried to grope and molest her. The victim came to the police station on the morning of January 10, following which a case under section 354 (Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 328 (Causing hurt by means of poison with intent to commit an offence) has been registered at Chanakayapuri Police Station. The accused was arrested soon after her complaint,” said BK Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police, New Delhi.
The statement of the woman was recorded under section 164 of the CrPc. She told the police that the incident took place in the noon of January 8. She checked out of the hotel and moved to another hotel in Gurugram, after which she decided to inform the police.
