AIADMK’s Mukkur N Subramanian emerged victorious securing 86680 votes against TVK’s Dusi K Mohan with a margin of 21081.The Cheyyar constituency witnessed a highly competitive and high-stakes showdown in the 2026 Assembly elections. The DMK re-nominated its incumbent candidate, O Jothi, who sought to retain the seat as he faced a powerful challenge from the AIADMK, which fielded Mukkur N Subramanian, a local heavyweight looking to reclaim the party’s influence. The entry of Dusi K Mohan (formerly of AIADMK) representing the TVK and M Tamilselvan of the NTK. In the 2021 election, O. Jothi (DMK) secured victory with 102,460 votes (47.78% vote share), defeating Dusi K. Mohan (AIADMK) by a margin of 12,271 votes. In the 2016 election, K. Mohan (AIADMK) had won the seat with 77,766 votes (37.78% vote share), defeating Dr M. K. Vishnuprasad (INC) by a margin of 8,527 votes. The voter turnout reached 91.97%, marking a notable rise from the 81.69% recorded in 2021. This increase is largely attributed to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) drive, which successfully cleansed the electoral rolls. Cheyyar (Assembly constituency No. 68) is a vital industrial and agricultural hub in Tiruvannamalai district. Home to one of the state’s major SIPCOT industrial complexes, its political landscape is a crucial barometer for balancing industrial development with the needs of the rural farming community in northern Tamil Nadu. The 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections were held in a single phase on April 23, recording a high voter turnout of 85.15%, with results declared on May 4. The polls witnessed an intense three-way contest that challenged the state’s traditional bipolar political structure. The electoral battle was primarily between the DMK-led alliance, including the INC and other parties, headed by MK Stalin and the AIADMK-led alliance, headed by Edappadi K Palaniswami, along with the BJP and other parties. Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), marking actor Vijay’s political debut as a third force across all 234 constituencies.
